Have No Shame

HAVE NO SHAME
When civil rights and forbidden love collide

"This book will resonate with readers who enjoyed Kathryn Stockett's, THE HELP, Julie Kibler's, CALLING ME HOME, John Grisham's, A TIME TO KILL, Sue Monk Kidd's, THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, and Kathleen Grissom's, THE KITCHEN HOUSE."

"Within moments of starting to read, you will be transported back to the Arkansas of 1967 - hot, dusty, utterly rural and edgy. Poor white farmers dependent upon cheap black labor who, due to their superior numbers, are constantly suppressed, living on the wrong side of town, ghettoised and terrified. You will remember scenes from `In the Heat of the Night' and `Easy Rider'; you will remember that, less than fifty years ago, if you were black, you could be beaten for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And if you died at the hands of a white youth, justice would almost certainly be denied you." Author Roderick Craig Low

SUMMARY

Alison Tillman has called Forrest Town, Arkansas home for the past eighteen years. Her mother's Blue Bonnet meetings, her father toiling night and day on the family farm, and the division of life between the whites and the blacks are all Alison knows. The winter of 1967, just a few months before marrying her high school sweetheart, Alison finds the body of a black man floating in the river, and she begins to view her existence with new perspective. The oppression and hate of the south, the ugliness she once was able to avert her eyes from, now demands her attention.

When a secretive friendship with a young black man takes an unexpected romantic turn, Alison is forced to choose between her predetermined future, and the dangerous path that her heart yearns for.

Get Lenin

Today I would like to welcome Robert Craven and his book "get Lenin". Robert, tell us about yourself? I was born July 2nd 1966 and I am currently living in Dublin, Ireland. I have had my first novel Get Lenin published by Taylor Street Publishing, an independent press based in San Francisco. I started writing in my teens, short stories, poems, song ideas as I was playing bass in various bands around the city. I have worked as a Graphic Designer and Desk Top Publisher for various Dublin publishers learning the ropes and in 2000, collated my diaries from the years of gigging & turned them into a novel. Titled ‘Vocals preferred, own transport essential’ I pitched it for about a year without success. In 2004/05 I started writing Get Lenin, have since had the sequel ‘Zinnman’ published and here I am today! I have a full-time job, married and a father. I write CD / download reviews for ‘Musicians Together Magazine’, an Irish on-line magazine featuring local and inte...

In search of the ONE

By now you have read the first entry and know why I got started. Dumped by my soulmate, I realized that I needed to shake myself off and get out there. To date, to date, he cried. And so he goes. Date, after date, after date. Strange story after strange story. I called a friend and told him the story of a date and he laughed. Tell Malcolm he said. I called Malcolm and he laughed and he said tell John. Boring to repeat the whole story again so I sent an email. And it did the rounds. Friends told me that after a strange date I must send them an email. After a while I decided to start a blog. When I reached 2500 readers, it was time to write a book. Dating the new frontier, these are the voyages of Lawrence, whose mission is to search for the ONE, again! Is it possible to find a second ONE? More in my book: Kill Me Now! A Middle Aged Man’s Maneuvers through the Frontline of the Dating Battlefield ISBN: 9781462059515 Available in November 2011.

A Shield of Health - Author Spotlight

A Shield of Health   It’s Only Madness A New Book by Bill Talcott First of all I would like to thank Lawrence Fisher for inviting your Dear Old Uncle Bill to his blog and giving me the chance to convince people NOT to purchase the latest book, Shield of Health by that madman Bill Talcott. That’s right, NOT purchase Shield of Health. It’s crazy to think that anyone would sit in front of a computer for a countless number of hours writing about people and places that don’t exist. And it’s not just the writing, it’s the time spent thinking this stuff up. You’d have to be out of your mind. Right? The whole idea is almost as insane as The Mission . So I guess you could consider this Bill Talcott guy to be twice as crazy. Oh excuse me, my psychologist says that term is no longer used. Whatever. Just to give you an example of the madness I’m talking about, here’s an excerpt from Shield of Health. The senator remained calm, letting Mack come across as the one who was bein...
